HISTORY

The tradition of forging metals in the small place Kreševo, in the midlle Bosnia, is very old. There are traces which show that various tools were forged here still during the Romans. The tools were sold even in Dubrovnik, Venice and Istambul. In the historical records there are notes about the famous caravans which often arrived in Dubrovnik with even 300-400 horses carrying Bosnian products.
The forging was based on the ore from the region, which is very ritch with it, and the water power of the rivers and brooks as well as on wooden coal as a source of heat energy. Nearly every household had a blacksmith's workshp and this job was the only source of incomes in this mountainos ans poor region.
The historical movements influenced the development as well as the destruction of this handcraft. So when the time came that the small blacksmith's workshop could no more exist for themselves, there was a community of blacksmith's in Kreševo which worked well for a long period. Later this community grew out in the forged tools factory for agriculture, construction and automobile industry known as: "Tvornica otkivaka i kovanog alata "Čelik" d.d. Kreševo".
